‘Safe Place’ Final Evaluation

Research:

For my research I’ve researched a few artists that we were shown during class and I’ve also researched Az Jackson that has produced a lot of figure in a landscape work that links well to my panoramic style of photography that I have adopted for this shoot. I’ve also researched techniques with panoramic photographs to help me produce better and more consistent images for my project.

Concept:

The concept for this project was to capture the people I was shooting in there ‘safe place’ a place that the subject loves to visit, or a place that the subject has been visiting since they were children. I thought this would be quite an easy task as in the area where I live there are a multitude of places that anyone could choose, but most of my subjects found it hard to single out a certain location.

Core skills:

The core skills that I needed for this project was the fundamental techniques of panoramic shooting and editing in order to keep everything consistent. I also wanted to work on my colour film shooting as I had never done this previous to this project, but sadly I never received my rolls of film back from development.

Meeting the brief/ proposal:

I feel that I met the brief as we weren’t given a set brief to work on, this time it was our own project that we should work towards. I feel that I did a lot of practical work an experimentation, however I definitely could’ve done more research and theory work for this project

Enjoyment/ engagement:

In this project I enjoyed getting outside to new places I hadn’t been before quite local to my area and I feel I really engaged well with the experimentation of a panoramic camera as well as experimentation with film and how differently the slightest of changes to the shooting or development of the film changes the outcome of how the film looks.

Most proud, least proud and areas to work on:

I am most proud of how I experimented with the images I took and how much I learnt about how to work confidently and well with film. I am least proud of my research skills as this is something I definitely feel I need to work on as I feel my work ethic for researching is very poor, this is also the area I wish to work on most for my future projects as I could’ve really beefed out this project with some well planned and thought out research.
